The residual equals gross consumption minus separately weighed broken, bent, planned, and other recovered removals. It may include progressive wear, carryout, unweighed fragments, mixing, or measurement error; the calculator does not rename it as wear.
Workbook
Carry the same logic into repeated blocks.
The downloadable Excel ledger includes a formula-linked baseline/trial summary, an editable trial protocol, a filtered operating-block table, field definitions, formulas, and source notes. Only rows explicitly marked “Yes” are included in the weighted summary.
Interpretation
Questions to settle before a supplier comparison.
What does the grinding rod kg/t result measure?
It reports gross rod consumption across the declared mill boundary divided by metric tonnes of dry new feed in the same operating block. It is a mass-balance result, not a direct measurement of progressive wear alone.
Why are broken, bent, and planned removals shown separately?
Those recovered categories help explain the gross replacement burden. They are included within the mass balance and must not be added to gross consumption a second time.
Does a lower trial kg/t prove that one supplier is better?
No. Ore and feed, throughput, product target, charge practice, liner state, downtime, measurement uncertainty, and repeated operating windows still need buyer engineering review.
