Define the shaft supply route before choosing the steel grade
Shaft-bar RFQs become clearer when the buyer starts from the part function, then confirms grade, condition, processing route, inspection scope, and document needs. This keeps motor shafts, transmission shafts, gear shafts, and heavy rotating parts from being treated as the same raw bar request.
- Identify the shaft type, load direction, rotation, fatigue exposure, and drawing status
- Compare 40Cr, 42CrMo4 / 4140, 34CrNiMo6, or 35CrMo by duty level and section size
- State hot rolled, QT, peeled, rough-machined, forged-route, or cut-to-length requirements
- Confirm straightness, machining allowance, UT, MTC, traceability, packing, and destination expectations

Material Choice
Common shaft-bar grades by duty level
40Cr, 42CrMo4 / 4140, 34CrNiMo6, and 35CrMo can support different shaft routes. The buyer should match grade and delivery condition to load, diameter, heat-treatment route, machining route, and certificate requirement.
- 40Cr for general shaft routes
- 42CrMo4 / 4140 for higher-load routes
- 34CrNiMo6 for heavy-duty toughness review
- 35CrMo for selected strength routes
Processing Route
Delivery condition, machining allowance, and surface route
Shaft RFQs should clarify whether the buyer needs hot rolled bar, QT bar, peeled bar, rough-machined blank, cut-to-length material, or forged route review. Machining allowance and final-size requirements should be stated when the buyer has drawings.
